Workouter MCP server

Connect Claude, or any MCP client, to Workouter. Describe a workout in plain language, and your agent builds it as a structured workout and sends it to your Apple Watch.

What you need

  • A Workouter account with a Pro subscription ($3/month). You can connect without one, but every tool asks you to upgrade first.
  • The Workouter iPhone app, paired with an Apple Watch, for workouts to arrive on your wrist automatically.
  • Garmin devices are not supported.

Connect

In Claude, find Workouter in the connector directory and connect it. To add it by hand instead, add a custom connector with this server URL:

https://workouter.co/api/mcp

Other MCP clients that support remote servers over streamable HTTP with OAuth connect to the same URL.

Your client opens a browser window. Sign in to Workouter (or create an account), then approve the access it asks for:

  • Read your account info: your plan, weekly allowance and whether a watch is registered.
  • Read your workouts.
  • Create workouts on your account.

Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration. Your client never sees your Workouter password, and Workouter never sees your conversation. It receives only what a tool is called with.

Tools

create_workoutWRITES
Saves the workout Claude designed to your account and sends it to your Apple Watch. If no watch is registered, it returns a link to open on your iPhone instead, and a QR code to scan with it.
list_workoutsREADS
Lists your saved workouts, newest first (up to 50).
get_workoutREADS
Shows the full structure of one of your workouts.
get_quotaREADS
Shows how many workouts you have left this week, and your plan.
get_delivery_statusREADS
Checks whether an Apple Watch is registered to receive workouts automatically.
get_workout_optionsREADS
Shows which goals and alerts Apple Watch accepts for an activity, such as a power target on a ride.

No tool edits or deletes an existing workout.

What you can build

Running, cycling, swimming (open water and pool, including send-off sets like 4 x 100 @ 1:45), walking, hiking, rowing, elliptical, HIIT, strength training, cross training, yoga, Pilates, dance, boxing, climbing, stairs and more: 40 activities in all, including a generic workout.

A workout is either a single goal or a warmup, interval blocks and a cooldown. A goal is a time, a distance, or open, meaning no target. A single-goal workout can also be a calorie target.

Each step can carry one alert: a heart-rate zone (1–5) or heart-rate range for any activity, and for runs and rides a cadence, power or speed target. Power zones (1–7) are for rides.

What an activity accepts depends on the activity, and sometimes on indoor or outdoor: rowing takes a distance goal outdoors but not indoors. Your agent can check any activity with Apple Watch first. There are no reps, sets or weights: an exercise like "3 x 10 barbell rows" is a named step repeated once per set.

Things to ask:

  • "Build me 6 x 800m with 2 minutes easy between, plus a 10 minute warmup and cooldown."
  • "A 45 minute easy ride in heart-rate zone 2. Send it to my watch."
  • "3 x 10 minutes at 220–250 watts on the bike, with 5 minutes easy between."
  • "Pool swim: 400 warmup, then 8 x 50 on 1:00, then 200 easy."
  • "A 30 minute yoga flow, then an open-ended stretch."
  • "What goals can I use for indoor rowing?"
  • "What workouts have I saved this week?"

Getting it onto your watch

If your account has an Apple Watch registered through the Workouter iPhone app, a new workout is sent to it automatically and is ready to start.

If not, your agent gives you a link. Open it on your iPhone to send the workout over with the app.

Limits

  • Pro accounts can create 15 workouts per week. The week starts on the day your subscription started, not on a fixed weekday.
  • Requests are rate limited per account. A client that sends too many gets asked to retry later.

Your data

Workouts your agent creates are saved to your Workouter account, the same as workouts you build on the website, and show up on your dashboard. Workout names and step text are translated so the workout reads in your language.

See the Privacy Policy for how we collect, use and keep your information.

Disconnect

Sign in to Workouter, open your dashboard, and select REVOKE next to the client under Connected agents. Its access stops right away. You can also remove the connector in your client. Workouts it created stay in your account.

Troubleshooting

  • "Requires a Pro subscription": subscribe from your dashboard, then ask your agent to try again.
  • "Weekly workout limit reached": you've used this week's 15. Ask your agent for your quota to see when it resets.
  • "Apple Watch can't run this workout as described": the activity doesn't accept that goal or alert, for example a calorie target inside an interval workout. Nothing was saved and your weekly allowance wasn't used. Ask your agent what the activity supports, then try again.
  • The workout didn't reach your watch: open the Workouter app on your iPhone and check that your watch is paired, or use the link your agent gave you.
  • Your client asks you to sign in again: the connection was revoked or expired. Sign in and approve again.
